Introduction
In view of PHDCCI’s membership profile - consisting of a large number of companies with
international commercial, technological and investment links - PHDCCI has a specialised
International Affairs Division, which is engaged in promoting international trade and other
business links.

International Affairs Division
The International Affairs Division works in close co-operation with diplomatic missions,
trade promotion organisations, etc. in India and abroad.

The International Affairs Division works through the following Expert Committees :

1. Foreign Trade & Investment Promotion Committee

The objective of the Committee is to formulate appropriate strategies and undertake
programmes aimed at enhancing India’s share in the global trade and direct investment
flows and to review India’s Export-Import (EXIM) policy and procedures, Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) policy and procedures and interact with government agencies as also
pursue issues that pertain to promotion of foreign trade and investment.

The objective of these Committees is to formulate appropriate strategies and undertake
programmes towards the promotion of two-way trade and investment and development
of economic ties between India and the countries under the purview of the respective
Committee.

PHDCCI has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with nearly 60 foreign
chambers of commerce / organisations with the objective of creating an institutional
framework for a two-way flow of information on business opportunities for promoting
trade as well as technical and economic co-operation.

Services
PHDCCI identifies and disseminates commercial information on opportunities available
for trade and business, both in India for foreign companies and internationally for
domestic companies. PHDCCI also disseminates information on major international fairs
and exhibitions to Indian companies.

PHDCCI processes trade enquiries and tenders received from all over the world.
PHDCCI responds to foreign enquiries by sending them contact details of Indian
companies exporting / importing the desired products. PHDCCI also assists foreign
companies in finding them Indian partners.

For identifying potential overseas buyers, PHDCCI, on requests received from member
companies, provides contact details of Indian Diplomatic Missions abroad, important
trade promotion organisations and prominent chambers of commerce all over the
world, website addresses and other leads. In some cases, PHDCCI also writes on
behalf of the member companies for obtaining the desired information.

PHDCCI maintains a comprehensive database of Indian exports / imports, product and
country-wise and value and quantity-wise, and also updated economic profiles,
including business information and opportunities, trade agreements, etc. of various
countries.

PHDCCI also regularly publishes various publications which provide useful information
to Indian and foreign companies.

information in terms of newsletters / bulletins, directories, etc. Whenever business
delegations / visits are planned to the countries in which the MoU partners are located,
their assistance is taken.

PHDCCI regularly sponsors business delegations to foreign countries.

PHDCCI services foreign business delegations visiting India by co-ordinating their visits
and organising individual business meetings for the foreign delegates with their Indian
counterparts. In some cases, PHDCCI also co-ordinates the entire visit of some foreign
delegations, including meetings with Government officials, other institutions, factory
visits, etc.

PHDCCI regularly organises workshops / seminars aimed at enhancing India’s share in
the global trade and direct investment flows and issues pertaining to enhancement of
trade and investment ties between India and other countries.

PHDCCI regularly organises interactions with Ambassadors / High Commissioners and
Economic / Commercial Counsellors of different countries. Annual informal interactions
between members of the foreign diplomatic corps based in India and representatives
of member companies are also organised. When requests are received, PHDCCI also
co-ordinates the visit of Ambassadors / High Commissioners to States serviced by
PHDCCI and also fixes up meetings for them with the respective State Governments /
dignitaries, in addition to the meetings with local industry and factory visits.

PHDCCI provides counselling and guidance to Indian and foreign companies on policies
and procedures pertaining to exports and imports, foreign investment, trade
regulations abroad, payments, etc.

PHDCCI regularly interacts with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of
Commerce & Industry, Government of India and puts across PHDCCI’s views at the
meetings convened by them on specific subjects / issues.

PHDCCI regularly reviews India’s Foreign Trade Policy and procedures, Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI) Policy and procedures and organises interactions with Direct
Government agencies to pursue issues pertaining to promotion of foreign trade and
investment. PHDCCI also represents to concerned Government agencies the problems
being faced by Indian industry with a view to ameliorate them. PHDCCI also compiles
and submits to the Government pre and post-Foreign Trade Policy memoranda.

PHDCCI uses its good offices in amicably solving trade disputes between Indian and
foreign companies.

On requests received from foreign companies, PHDCCI also undertakes a preliminary
credibility check (due-diligence) of Indian companies and provides some initial
information to the foreign parties.

PHDCCI’s Library (1) maintains a file on each country in which all economic and
business information received from different sources about the particular country is
filed. This also includes the monthly commercial and economic reports prepared by
Indian Missions in different countries and received by PHDCCI electronically / by post;
(2) receives newsletters / bulletins from several Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) of
India, chambers of commerce / industry associations, domestic and foreign, India,
international and foreign organisations / institutions, Indian Diplomatic Missions
abroad, foreign Diplomatic Missions in India, etc.; (3) maintains industrial / trade
directories of all major countries of the world; etc.

PHDCCI, which has been authorised by the Government of India, issues certificates of
origin, certifies commercial invoices and also recommends issuance of visas for
businessmen.

When approached by member companies, PHDCCI also writes to foreign chambers,
including MoU partners, requesting them to provide all necessary assistance to the
representative of the concerned member company when he is visiting their country.

To service its membership more effectively, PHDCCI has also started a new service
recently under which International Commercial & Economic Information received
(Monthly Commercial & Economic Reports, Tenders, Trade Enquiries, Trade Fairs /
Exhibitions, etc.) by PHDCCI from Indian Diplomatic Missions abroad / Foreign
Diplomatic Missions in India (in electronic form) is sent electronically to members.
