In view of the growing significance of the entertainment industry, PHDCCI has constituted a Special Committee on Entertainment to address issues specific to the development of this sector. The Committee would seek to promote the Northern Region as an attractive destination for a gamut of entertainment activities, provide a platform for an Industry-Government interface and act as a think-tank for policy inputs.

Provide a forum for interaction of industry constituents to brainstorm on various issues.

Provide a platform for industry–government interaction and act as a think-tank to provide policy inputs to the Government.

Identify existing gaps hindering development of the entertainment sector and initiate action to bridge the same.

Address specific issues relating to the entertainment sector.

Organise events / programmes relating to the development of entertainment sector.
|

Promote education and awareness of all mediums of entertainment

Submit pre-budget memorandum to the State Government

PHDCCI Entertainment Committee consists of (i) representatives from the entertainment industry (ii) eminent personalities from the field of films, Television, art and culture, theatre, journalism, music (iii) experts and (iv) media representatives.

INDUSTRY ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED IN 2004
|
|
|
|
1. Piracy
The Entertainment committee would initiate steps to address the growing menace of piracy (both video and audio). Legal opinion on the subject would be sought to draw up an action plan. The Committee would promote public awareness to curb piracy, seek strengthening of the enforcement mechanism and contact professional agencies seeking their cooperation to curb piracy. The committee would also interact with leading cable operators to check piracy.
2. State Level Issues
The Entertainment committee would address important issues at the state level relating to the following: a) Rationalization of Rate of entertainment tax across various states b) Pursue the formulation of film policy in every state c) Incentives being offered to multiplexes and cinemas d) Incentives being offered for shooting of films across various states.
3. Procedural simplifications
The committee would endeavor to seek simplification and streamlining of procedures for shooting of films in heritage and cultural monuments. The committee would pursue for a lenient and flexible policy for shooting of films. The issues would be taken up with the I & B Ministry, Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the State Government in order to promote northern region as an attractive destination for shootings. The Committee would also seek feedback from eminent producers, directors and Associations in order to address specific problems.
4. Promoting Heritage of Northern Region
With a view to promote the heritage of northern region, the Committee would organise exhibitions, shows, screening of films at identified locations.
5. Issues of the Broadcasting Industry
The Broadcasting sector has immense potential for growth particularly in view of the growing penetration in both in Urban and rural areas. The Committee would endeavor to highlight the opportunities and challenges in this sector through Seminars and Roundtables.

In order to strengthen its activities in the region the Committee invites membership from the entertainment sector. Representatives of the entertainment industry are invited to participate and contribute to the Committee activities. Views and suggestions on various issues are welcome.
