Mr.
Bibek Debroy, a professional economist, was educated at the Presidency
College (Calcutta), the Delhi School of Economics and the Trinity College (Cambridge). Beginning his career as an academician, Mr. Debroy taught at his alma mater, the Presidency College, and later at the Gokhle Institute of Politics and Economics (Pune), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (Delhi) and National Council of Applied Economic Research (Delhi). Mr. Debroy is also a Consultant to the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. He served as the Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi, before being appointed as the next Secretary General of PHDCCI. He has also worked as Director for a project "LARGE" (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalising the Economy), set up by the Finance Ministry and UNDP for examining legal reforms in the country. Mr. Debroy has also authored several books, papers and popular articles, and continues to be the Consulting Editor of some of the most prominent financial newspapers in the country. He is presently a member of the National Manufacturing Competitive Council.
